Rumah Bulat made thousand years ago. At that time, Rumah Bulat is used for saving food, safe the people at the home and reproduction place for women’s. From a long time ago, Rumah Bulat is a sacred house and have a unique form, like its name, Circle or in Indonesia, they called it Bulat. The part of Rumah Bulat actually seems like a small dirty kitchen and with one wood mattress. In modern century like now, we call it by Traditional House.
If we see from the hygiene and sanitary of Rumah Bulat, it’s really dirty because the base or the floor doesn’t made from ceramic but just a soil. We can imagine that, if it’s raining, the soil become flood and I’m sure, there are so many flies. The citizens there have already known about bad effect of living in Rumah Bulat , but they still believe that Rumah Bulat is a good place to keep them save from everything, such as wild animal and thief. They think that if they live in Rumah Bulat , the thief doesn’t want to steal their property. Yeah it because there’s no something important in Rumah Bulat . As we know together, at the top of my essay, I have already explained that one of the functions of Rumah Bulat is a place for women’s reveal. The citizens there, will call shaman to help the women’s to reveal. They still don’t want to call midwife to help the women’s. Beside there is no midwife there, the shaman will give a traditional medicine to help the women’s and say the magic formula in their own language. It makes the citizen more believe the shaman than midwife. But the funniest one, when the women’s reveal is in a bad condition after pregnant, the citizens will call and pick up the midwife although it takes a long time. The bad one, after they arrived in the midwife’s house, the citizen said to prepare faster and go to the Rumah Bulat . Sometimes they will angry to the midwife, if the midwife takes along time. Whereas we are know that, midwife takes along time to prepare everything well and should be hygiene. After the women’s reveal, they have a traditional practice, they called it by “ Tatobi “ or washing women’s body using warm water. The function of “ Tatobi “ is to warming the women’s after reveal and to keep sterile the women’s body and the reveal trace.
One of midwife there named Sukma, said that, she already tried to stop practicing “ Tatobi “ but it was failed and she gives up. Five years ago, Sukma lived 37kilometers from Rumah Bulat, but now the Ministry of Health in Kupang, asks Sukma to lived maximum 1kilometers or should be near from the citizen which live in Rumah Bulat .They still believe in Shaman. Sukma cannot do something about that, She just and should be ready, when the citizens call her to help the women’s when it’s already in a bad condition or we called it by terminal condition. Actually this is our government work to help the citizens there by spreading a lot of medical personnel especially midwife and also educating the citizens to believe and choose midwife. Other works, our government should build Public Health Centre. Because in Soe-NTT, Public Health Centre just in the city, but in a fall down area, there is no Public Health Centre.
Rumah Bulat actually true as a traditional place to reveal, but if we see to the modern technology and back to the hygiene and sanitary, its not good to choose Rumah Bulat again. The Government also must see this as a big problem, to spread the medical personnel in all fall down area.
